Amy and Julie

Amy grew up in an artsy family in Plattsburgh, NY. She is an award-winning artist, freelance writer and the co-author of the Touch the Art series for kids. A former teacher, Amy now lives with her husband on the shores of Costa Rica and Lake Champlain where she enjoys water sports just as long as she doesn't have to get her hair wet. Amy is working on several new picture books, a YA novel and a women’s fiction novel inspired by her life as an artist.

Julie Appel has been an enthusiast of the fine and performing arts her whole life.  After practicing law in NYC for many years, Julie decided to devote more time to pursuing her passion for writing.  The creation of the Touch the Art Series enabled her to combine her interests in both the Arts and writing. Now a full-time writer, she lives in NYC with her husband and two children.

Amy and Julie met when Julie’s daughter was in Amy’s kindergarten class.  Amy’s curriculum focused on art and great artists. The students enjoyed the class immensely and loved learning about great art.  Several months after Julie’s daughter graduated from kindergarten, Julie approached Amy about the two of them creating a television art show for children and writing some children’s art books together.  They started to collaborate on several books and also produced a TV Pilot.   This book series is the first result of Amy and Julie’s creative collaboration.
